Westland Garryana 3/1 2018 Release. Image courtesy Westland Distillery. The 2018 edition of Westland’s Garryana single malt is different from the previous two editions, in that not all of the whisky was matured completely in Garry Oak from the Pacific Northwest. Garry Oak is in short supply, so Westland’s team used their supply of available casks to finish whiskies made from their “five-malt barley” using five different types of malted barley and their peated malt for the 2018 edition.

The nose is resinous with oak, a touch of sandalwood, dried flowers, subtle spices, and hints of honey and campfire smoke. The taste is spicy with a delayed onset of black pepper and chili powder spices balanced by oak tannins and grilled fruits. The finish is long and complex with a nice balance of oakiness and subtle touches of fruits and spices. Excellent! (October, 2018)
