The Balvenie DCS Compendium 2004. Image courtesy William Grant & Sons. This single malt is part of Chapter 3 of The Balvenie’s DCS Compendium series of five annual releases honoring longtime Malt Master David Stewart MBE, and was matured for 13 years in a European Oak Oloroso Sherry hogshead cask (#741, to be specific). The nose is complex with great sherried notes of Christmas cake, figs, toffee, honey, and berry cobbler. The taste is well-rounded and mature with Christmas cake, clove, cardamom, white pepper, dried flowers and a touch of herbs, honey, figs, and toffee. The finish is very long with spices that last and last, along with that nice warm feeling that goes all the way down into your chest to warm the heart. Excellent! (November, 2017)
