St. George Baller Single Malt. Image courtesy St. George Spirits. This whiskey gets its name not from the common use of “Baller,” but because it was created specifically for use in Highballs. It’s first matured for two and a half years in a combination of ex-Bourbon and French Oak wine, then filtered through maple charcoal and finished in the distillery’s own Umeshu plum liqueur casks. The nose has subtle dried fruits, straw, and a nice maltiness. The taste is chewy and thick with notes of plums, licorice, hints of clove and cinnamon, and a soft oakiness. The finish is long and luscious with notes of prunes, plums, figs, licorice, and muted spices in the background. Unique and excellent! (August, 2017)
