Scapa Glansa. Image courtesy Chivas Brothers. While there’s plenty of peat on Orkney, Scapa doesn’t distill any peated malt of its own. This single malt was originally matured in American Oak casks and finished in casks previously used for maturing peated malts. The nose has notes of grilled pineapple, baked apples and oranges, Manuka honey, vanilla, and a hint of dried flowers. The taste has fresh berries, orange peel, a mild smokiness that builds over time with a touch of grilled pineapple, and touches of honey and vanilla in the background. The finish is aromatic with a nice smokiness and sweeter notes of honey and berries. Very nice. (October, 2016)
