Old Potrero 18th Century Style Whiskey. Image courtesy Anchor Distilling. This Rye whiskey uses the same 100% malted Rye recipe as Old Potrero’s Single Malt Straight Rye, but is matured using toasted barrels instead of fully charred ones, and is matured for two years and six months. The result is a whiskey with a smooth, subtly spiced nose with gentle hints of cinnamon, clove, roasted almonds, hints of brown sugar and honey, and a nice oakiness underneath. The taste is spicy, but with a good tartness of orange peel nicely balancing the long clove and cinnamon spices and notes of honey and brown sugar underneath. The finish is long with nice soft spices, and gently fades away. (December, 2016)
