Mortlach 25 Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Image courtesy Diageo. This is one of four new Mortlach distillery bottlings to be released in July of 2014, and these tasting notes are based on early production runs. They will be updated when the bottlings are released if there are significant differences.

The nose is rich, thick, and complex with notes of orange oils, dark chocolate, marzipan, cedar shavings, and a cigar humidor with pipe tobacco. Time brings out papaya and coconut notes, and the orange oils turn to a marmalade note. The taste is dense, solid, and firm with intense cinnamon on the tip of the tongue, orange marmalade, dark chocolate, cedar, and old wet leather. Water accentuates the fruitiness and brings in a touch of ashiness as well. The finish is long with fading spices, old leather, and hints of citrus fruits, eucalyptus, and fresh mushrooms. Outstanding! (November, 2013)
