This expression kicked off Highland Park’s Keystones Series in 2016, and was available only through the distillery’s gift shop and to members of the Inner Circle affinity group. It gets its name from the nearby Hobbister Moor, which supplies the peat used in the distillery’s kilns to dry malt produced on Highland Park’s floor maltings.
The nose has a soft oakiness, along with caramel candy, dark chocolate, muted spices, touches of smoke and licorice, straw, and a hint of black peppercorns. The taste has dark spices with black pepper, clove, cinnamon, and an underlying fruitiness with citrus and tropical fruits, while the barest whiff of smoke pulls it all together with a thick, oily mouthfeel. The finish is long with spices that fade away gently. Excellent! (May, 2017)
