Glenmorangie Companta. Image courtesy Glenmorangie. The fifth edition in Glenmorangie’s Private Edition range, and finished in a combination of French Clos de Tart Grand Cru casks and Côtes du Rhône fortified wine casks — it shows in the redness of this whisky.

The nose has notes of black cherries, red grapes, a hint of orange peel, figs, toffee, and a subtle hint of allspice. The taste starts off sweet, then turns dry, mouth-tingling, and spicy with soft cinnamon and allspice notes, red grapes, Christmas cake, and a touch of toffee underneath adds balance. The finish is dry, long, and fruity with Christmas cake and an unusual touch of pine smoke. (February, 2014)
