Glenfiddich India Pale Ale Cask Finish. Image courtesy William Grant & Sons. This is a collaboration between Glenfiddich Malt Master Brian Kinsman and the brewers at the Speyside Craft Brewery in Forres, and is the first release in a new range of Experimental Series whiskies from Glenfiddich. The whisky was finished in the IPA casks, and the nose is aromatic, malty, and hoppy with a touch of lemon zest, oak, vanilla, caramel, and cocoa. The taste is spicy and slightly tart with hints of cinnamon and black pepper, along with lemon zest, a nice maltiness with touches of hops and oak, vanilla, and green apples in the background. The finish is long with a subtle hoppiness that doesn’t overpower more delicate notes of green apples and vanilla. (February, 2017)
