Bruichladdich Port Charlotte 10 Second Limited Edition. Image courtesy Bruichladdich.Port Charlotte is Bruichladdich’s “mildly” peated single malt, and this is the second time a 10-year-old version has been released. The nose has a gentle smokiness with a blend of peat and driftwood campfire smoke, heather, grilled pineapple, peach pie, apricots, and berry cobbler along with a nice maltiness and hints of the spice to come. The taste starts off dry at first as the smokiness builds with time, along with notes of beach sand and brine. Eventually, it becomes woody and peaty – think of a campfire in your mouth, but with fruity notes of banana, mango, orange peel, black cherry and dried flowers underneath. The finish has a lingering smokiness with touches of dried fruits and flowers. (November, 2016)
