Benromach Chateau Cissac 2009. Image courtesy Benromach/Gordon & MacPhail. This Speyside single malt started out in first-fill ex-Bourbon casks, then was finished for 25 months in wine casks from Chateau Cissac in the Haut-Médoc region of France. The nose has notes of red grapes, plums, soft spices, baked peaches, a slight maltiness, and just a hint of beef broth. The taste is rich and spicy with dark fruits and touches of clove, allspice, and ginger. Black grapes provide a nice counterpart with hints of brown sugar and marzipan in the background. The finish is long and smooth with gently fading fruity notes. (October, 2017)
