Bain's Cape Mountain Whisky. Image courtesy Distell. This single grain whisky from South Africa’s James Sedgwick Distillery is made from native-grown corn and an unusual double-maturation in first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels. The first maturation is for around three years, with a second maturation in first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels for between 18 and 30 months.

The nose is creamy with a subtle spiciness, buttered corn on the cob, vanilla, honey, and banana notes. The taste is peppery with a honey sweetness and touches of cocoa and brown sugar underneath. The finish is long with a peppery spiciness that lasts and lasts. (November, 2017)
